Why I Love Sarah Palin
By Kristen SoltisWhile packing my gear to head out for Labor Day weekend/the Republican convention, deciding just how much red attire would be overkill, I was watching my beloved Morning Joe, casually trying to ignore Mika Brzezinski’s sniping at the McCain campaign’s Nancy Pfotenhauer (”why are you guys feeding us such BAD information! Why can’t you people make it EASY for me!”), a piece of information popped about a plane going from Anchorage to Dayton…and it looked like the McCain VP choice would be? ”Sarah Palin.”
It was kind of like the fantastic piece of news you weren’t expecting at all, like hearing that there might be an Arrested Development movie. Sarah Palin was not on my radar. But as a young woman who also has a soft spot for her red business suit, I couldn’t not be excited. Twitter this morning caught fire, and a quick scan of Palin’s wikipedia page made me fall head over heels into girl-crush with her.
The Important Facts You Should Know About Sarah Palin
1)She had a baby. In APRIL. (It was her fifth. So like a pro, she was back at work three days later.)
2)She eBayed the state private jet because it was government waste.
3)She cut her own salary.
4)She was in the Miss Alaska pageant.
5)She has a son going to Iraq this month to serve.
6)She is 44.
7)Her husband is an Eskimo…they eloped shortly after college and got folks from the nursing home down the street to be witnesses.
8)She has children named “Track”, “Bristol”, and “Willow”. It’s like NASCAR meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Which, in fact, is pretty appropriate for Sarah Palin.
9)She eats moose burgers. (Not that I have anything against moose.)
So there, nine reasons aside from her stances on issues that she is fantastic. As a Republican woman, I couldn’t be happier with this pick. I didn’t see it coming, but now I am thrilled with the genius pick it is.

This is absolutely stunning, and right in line with Ross Douthat’s Grand New Party platform. She’s a populist, a reformer, a conservative from working class roots (dad was an elementary school teacher), her husband’s a Yup’ik Eskimo with years of experience in environmentally sound oil extraction, she’s pro-life, pro-2nd amendment, a hockey-playing maverick of the female persuasion who’s articulate, drop-dead gorgeous, well spoken, even-tempered, and best of all where Joe Biden’s concerned, her nickname is “Barracuda”. She kicks ass and chews gum at the same time. PUMAs will love her and she could bring Republican women voters out in droves for the first time in history. And since women make up 54% of the vote, well - that’s a wrap folks.
Now we can focus on protecting the people of the Gulf from Gustav, and the convention becomes a no-nevermind overnight. Who cares? No convention could generate as much excitement as the buzz today. Republicans, be proud of John McCain. He has done for this party what was said to be impossible: he’s rebranding it in the most positive, personable, effective, competent possible way. Women, be proud of how far we’ve come in the last century. This is our year, this may even be our century, and oddly enough we can actually thank Hillary Clinton for leading us into it with her 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling. As Bill Kristol likes to say, the great thing about a Democracy is that you can lie about your vote. I feel quite certain I know who Hillary Clinton will be voting for in November. It won’t be Barack Obama and Joe Biden. My gut tells me that this is the layup for a Clinton/Palin showdown in 4-8 years. Wait for it. It’s coming.

While all those are valid reasons to “love” her, I do find it kind of hard to swallow that she is currently under ethics investigation. Also, as evinced on her July 31 interview with CNBC, she clearly has no idea what it means to be a veep, and overestimates her own productivity.

I think it’s a great pick by McCain…even if he loses his legacy will be introducing Governor Palin to the nation. Like Ross said, she does represent the new face of the GOP, a reform and ethics-minded corruption fighter (sort of like McCain was supposed to be) who stand for states’ rights and tradition. In no way do I think this gives him an edge in the election; whether Obama wins or not is solely based on his performance over the next few months. I do think that this makes the GOP more exciting to follow this year. I’m still in the Ron Paul camp, but if they can produce more politicians like Governor Palin in the GOP I’m all for it.

She brings more experience than Obama, and reveals the choice of Biden as tired as an old hair-plug. All Biden brings is bitterness and attack-dog politics - he’s a political thug and legbreaker.

Biden. Tired old hair plug. Hmmm.

I was actually on the fence about who I was going to vote for (just being honest). I had actually heard about Sarah Palin a couple of months ago when she was briefly mentioned as a really really long shot for VP. I read up about her and I absolutely agree with almost every position she takes (I have never had a politician match my own personal beliefs so well). Well I was leaning more towards Obama but I hadn’t written off McCain (because I am an independent thinking Republican and it was really really painful to me to think that I might vote Democrat). Well when I woke up this morning and found out that McCain had selected Palin my mind was made up almost instantly. McCain-Palin has my vote. In the end the biggest problem that I had with Obama was his stance on abortion and infanticide. I am 100% pro-life, no ifs ands or buts.

I love her! She’s a regular person, and isn’t it time that WE the people be governed by one of us? How many more Ivy Leagye lawyers need to govern poorly, before we wake up? I absolutely lover her! I share her values and apire to her work ethic. AND, if the police commissioner in Alaska can’t appropriately discipline officers that stun gun their children, get hammered in their patrol cars and threaten members of the Governor’s family, I fully expect that she would make the necessary changes to protect her family and the community. Someone has to act responsibily. If an ethics investigation is required to determine that the officer abused his power, the commissioner turned his head and the governor’s office had to step in, then let’s get it done. He’s lucky she didn’t use him for target practice. Did I mention I lover her?!!!

Yes! A new star who can speak for conservatives. I am no fan of John McCain, but my estimation of him has gone up considerably with his choice of running mate. Throughout the day, I kept seeing pundits ask what qualifications she has to be Commander in Chief. She is a mother whose son will be going into harm’s way. There are no better qualifications than that.
